Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Rune located?

We are in Sonoita, Arizona, about 1 hour from Tucson and 2.5 hours from Phoenix. From I-10 east, take exit 281 to Highway 83 South. After a beautiful 30 minute drive, you will reach Sonoita and the intersection of Highway 83 and Highway 82. Turn left onto Highway 82 and head east. Rune is just 7 miles down the road- find us between mile markers 39 and 40 on the south side of Highway 82, at the crest of the hill. Look for our “Rune” flags and metal building.

Where do your grapes come from?

Our 100% Arizona wine is made from grapes grown across the state, from Willcox to the Verde Valley. We also have 3 acres of Grenache, Viognier, and Syrah planted on the Rune property in Sonoita.

Do you serve food? Is outside food allowed?

Yes! We offer a rotating variety of small bites and charcuterie as well as local baked goods by Farmer’s Daughter. You are also welcome to bring along snacks from home for your day of wine tasting!

What wines do you offer?

Our tasting menu changes regularly, but you can usually expect a Rosé, a white wine, and several reds. We primarily make Rhone varietals, such as Syrah, Viognier, Grenache, and Mourvèdre. All of our wines are wild yeast fermented, low sulphur, and low intervention.

Who does your label art?

We work with an incredible artist named Daniel Helzer. Our label art changes with each vintage, and each wine has its own characters and storyline. Our labels are essentially a graphic novel playing out on our bottles over the years.

What can we expect during our visit to Sonoita?

The Sonoita/Elgin area has 17 wineries and 2 breweries to enjoy. Additionally, we have several local restaurants offering a variety of cuisine. We are also a wonderful basecamp to explore surrounding destinations, such as Patagonia, Tombstone, Bisbee, Kartchner Caverns, the historic Empire Ranch, and more. Sonoita is a great day trip, but there is also enough to do to make it a long weekend destination. Also, did you know that during the summer we’re usually 10 degrees cooler than Tucson and 15-20 degrees cooler than Phoenix? The high desert grasslands are a great getaway! Looking for lodging? Check out our AirBnB.

Where can I buy Rune Wines?

You can buy our wines directly from us at our tasting room in Sonoita, or order through our online store. Our wines are also available in many restaurants and shops in Arizona. Are you a restaurant or bottle shop interested in acquiring our wines? Get in touch with our distributor, Stem Wine Company.

Are children allowed at Rune?

We are kid friendly, and many of our regulars often bring the whole family. However, keep in mind that we primarily taste outdoors, and there are lots of cacti and critters to get in trouble with, so keep the little ones close!

Are dogs welcome at Rune?

Definitely! We primarily taste outside, so dogs will have a great time. Keep in mind that there will likely be other dogs (and lots of people) around as well, so please only bring friendly, well behaved dogs.

Can I host a private event at Rune Wines?

Perhaps! We aren’t in the business of being an events venue, but we have hosted elopements, small weddings, private company parties, and more in the past. Contact megan@runewines.com to explore the possibilities.
